INFRA RED
INFRA RED
This is a very useful diagnostic method of establishing breaks in the insulation in buildings. It also detects temperature loss through wet or damaged insulation so, where leaks occur, it can have a beneficial effect in tracing them.
Infra red must be treated with caution under such circumstances, however, as it can provide misleading information based on pretty or even dramatic-looking imagery. Unless the results are interpreted correctly, however, it can be a waste of time and money.
Various criteria have be established before proceeding with test, typically:
Is there sufficient temperature difference between inside and outside temperatures?
Is the insulation in the right place to be affected by a water leak?
Is the insulation of the type to be affected by water leaks (most are not)?
How safe will it be? (Many surveys have to be carried out by night to avoid the effects of infra red in sunlight)
