Professional Roof Assessment & Leak Detection Service

Thornton Consulting specialises in identifying and resolving water ingress problems affecting commercial properties across Gravesend and the wider Thames Gateway region. Our consultancy approach combines sophisticated electronic detection technology with proven investigative techniques, delivering accurate diagnoses that protect your building assets and support informed maintenance decisions.

Gravesend’s mix of historic town centre properties, modern retail developments, and Thames-side commercial buildings each present distinct waterproofing challenges. Our team brings specialist knowledge to each project, whether you’re dealing with invasive leak problems currently, establishing preventative inspection schedules, or need comprehensive documentation for property assessments. We provide planned roof inspections that catch issues early, detailed roof condition surveys, and targeted building leak investigations that identify sources quickly, enabling cost-effective, decisive remedial action.

How We Work

  • Planning

Every project begins with a thorough preliminary assessment, examining building characteristics, waterproofing, and any historical issues. We select the most appropriate testing methodology for your specific situation and develop an efficient survey plan that minimises business disruption.

  • Testing

Our qualified leak detection technicians use industry-leading equipment calibrated for commercial applications. Employing techniques including low voltage testing and pinhole detection for conductive substrates with a membrane system, we methodically survey waterproofed areas to identify defects accurately.

  • Evidence

Each detected breach receives precise documentation through exact location mapping, comprehensive digital photography, and detailed field measurements. Our evidence provides contractors with clear information, reducing the risk of misinterpretation and ensuring repairs target problems promptly and confidently.

  • Recommendations

We provide clear, actionable advice prioritised by urgency and potential impact. Our recommendations consider immediate remedial needs alongside longer-term maintenance strategies, helping you plan effectively and protect your building investment.

Client Testimonials

I’ve worked with Thornton’s team for nigh on 10 years and I’m yet to be disappointed by any aspect of their business or interaction with any of their staff. I feel that the collaborative approach we have when working together not only benefits our site in a speedy response and solution, but it also strengthens our relationship with our onsite client team, building in faith that together we can self-solve most, if not all issues. Working with Wendy and the onsite teams is nothing short of a pleasure. I would highly recommend using Thornton Consulting Group for all investigative services when it comes to finding leak issues.

OCS Group (Bluewater)

Your team have successfully found the cause of the water ingress. I also wanted to write to express how impressed we are with the professionalism of both Sam and Dave and there health and safety whilst on site. I will be recommending Thornton Consulting going forward to the Hospital and will certainly use this service in the future with Carillion. Many thanks, and also for attending at such short notice.

Carillion Plc

We have worked with Thornton’s for several years now and we could not be happier with the service. The team are really helpful, accommodating and always happy to help us out if we are under pressure from a client. The team are always happy to take a call to discuss a project with them to get a clear understanding of the issues found on site. Thorntons always find the issues and provide a very thorough report to outline them with recommendations on repairs required.

FAQs

How quickly can you respond to urgent leak situations?

We understand that active leaks can cause significant disruption and damage, so we prioritise urgent investigations. Depending on our current schedule and your location, we typically aim to attend urgent leak situations within 24-48 hours of your initial contact. For planned integrity testing and condition surveys, we’re generally more flexible on timing and can schedule works to suit your convenience. When you contact us, we’ll discuss the urgency of your situation and provide a realistic timeframe for attendance.

Do older buildings require different testing approaches?

Older commercial buildings often feature different construction methods and waterproofing systems compared to modern structures, which can influence our testing approach. Our electronic testing methods remain effective across these various systems, though we may need to adapt our approach and techniques depending on what we discover. Our experience with diverse building types means we understand these nuances and select appropriate testing strategies that deliver reliable results regardless of building age.

Can weather conditions affect your testing schedule?

Some of our testing methods do have weather dependencies. Low voltage electronic testing typically requires wet conditions to be effective, as moisture creates the electrical pathway we use to detect breaches. Conversely, pinhole or holiday testing works best in dry conditions. This means we sometimes need to schedule works around weather forecasts or may need to adapt our methodology based on conditions when we arrive on site.
